Congratulations, Lily Varner! This year’s regional Poetry Out Loud winner! This is the first time an East Juniata student has won first place, so this is a wonderful accomplishment. Lily will be advancing to the state competition.
Poetry Out Loud is a competition that is offered to high school students across the country. Students are expected to compete by memorizing poems and orally interpreting them to a panel of judges. The first round of competitions starts at the student's high school. This year, Lily competed at our school's competition in early January. The next round is a regional competition where seven different school districts are invited to compete (Perry, Juniata, Mifflin, Montour, Snyder, Union, and Northumberland). The regional competition for this year took place at the Landis House in Newport, on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2023. Lily was announced this year's regional winner, and the runner up was from our sister school, Juniata High School. Lily will be advancing to a States competition that will be performed virtually (via recording), at the end of February. Best of luck Lily!
