Juniata High School

Normally I tend to stay away from mystery novels, but this author has persuaded me to expand my horizons. Her way of weaving multiple different events and pieces of evidence into a singular unexpected ending without leaving any loose ends is quite satisfying. Barnes is adept at linking the books in the series together in a way that leaves the reader bewildered on the fact that they didn’t see it coming. The Inheritance Games is about a girl, named Avery, trying to get through high school and start her adult life when unexpectedly a recently expired billionaire names her as his heir to his fortune in his will…. with a few conditions. When she arrives to hear the full reading of the will she meets the snotty, arrogant grandsons of Tobias Hawthorne, the billionaire. Throughout this novel they discover hidden puzzles in the walls of the ancient house all the while  Avery must try to find out who to trust now that she is the owner of a large fortune.
