The Juniata Girls’ volleyball team is currently 8-4 as we near the end of September. The girls’ first game at Fannett-Metal ended in a 3-1 score with 19 kills by senior outside-hitter Lexi Frontz to help secure Juniata’s first win of the season. Unfortunately, the next game resulted in a tough overtime loss of 3-2 against Millersburg. During the fast-paced and unpredictable game, Lexi Frontz had 16 kills and 20 digs. Senior libero Sarah Royer had an impressive 43 digs. Moving into September, Juniata won in straight sets against SJA. Lexi Frontz had 17 service points, along with 11 kills. Junior setter Isabella Armstrong had 20 assists, and Sarah Royer had 11 digs. Juniata had another tough overtime loss of 3-2 against Halifax the following day. Lexi Frontz posted an impressive 26 kills. Going into the next week, Juniata broke their overtime streak against Upper Dauphin, winning a close 3-2 match. The score of the fifth and final set was a nail-biting 17-15. Lexi Frontz had 19 kills, along with sophomore middle-hitter Mariska Whitesel, who had 7. The game against Danville was short and sweet, ending 3-0. Senior Hunter Meifert had ten aces. With a score of 3-0, a losing game against Mifflin County proved to be disappointing. Lexi Frontz had six kills, and Isabella Armstrong had eight assists. Southern Huntingdon put up a fight when they went to five sets with Juniata. However, the girls pulled through for a 3-2 win. Sophomore middle-hitter Hannah Greybill and Lexi Frontz had six aces apiece. Penns Valley beat the Juniata girls in straight sets in the next game. Lexi Frontz had eight kills. Juniata went on to beat EJ in straight sets in the following game. In straight sets, the girls beat Midd-West in little time. Lexi Frontz achieved a huge milestone of 500 career kills during the second set. As for her total kills that game, she had eight, along with four aces. Hannah Greybill had ten aces, and Mariska Whitesel had six kills. Juniata’s most recent Saturday morning game ended in a straight-set win against Sugar Valley Rural.
