This past Friday, September 22nd, Juniata crowned their new homecoming queen and won against Halifax. Homecoming took place during halftime of the game after the band performed its show. The candidates were all chosen by their peers to represent various activities at JHS.
Lexie Gilson was the arts, music, and yearbook staff representative. After high school Lexie plans to study musical theater or music education. In school Lexie participates in Chorus, District and Regional Band and Chorus, Concert Band, Jazz Band, Marching Band Drum Major, Drama Club, Newspaper Editor, SADD Club President, Student Council President, Key Club, May Day, Senior Class VP, and National Honor Society. Outside of school Lexie volunteers at Abundant Blessings, enjoys dancing at Margaret McCann School of Dance, is a Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Alumni, and is running for 2023 Veterans Queen. Christopher Martin was her escort.
The candidate chosen to represent the service organizations was Haley Mummah. Haley was chosen to represent Student Council, SADD Club, and Key Club. After high school she plans to further her education by attending college. In school Haley is a part of the soccer team, FFA, cross country, basketball, track and field, and is Co-Secretary of Student Council, as well as the Secretary for NHS. Outside of school Haley is an active member of St. Stephen’s Youth Group, and she enjoys hanging out with her friends.
Reese Foltz is the representative of the Senior class. After high school Reese plans to attend a 4 year college and major in special education. In school she is a part of the volleyball team, yearbook, band, chorus, student council, and NHS. Outside of school Reese works at Buttonwood Campground, is an active member of St. Joseph’s Youth Group, and is doing an internship at Juniata Elementary School. Escorting her was Brandon Snyder.
The chosen representative for fall athletic teams was Amelia Smith. Amelia wishes to attend college and major in special education and elementary education after graduation. Her school activities include soccer, wrestling, track and field, student council, national honor society, yearbook, Scholastic J, and Varsity J. Outside of school Amelia plays on Keystone FC soccer team, attends Free Spring Church of the Brethren, is a lifeguard and manager at Juniata Park Pool, and is doing an internship at Juniata Elementary School. Her escort for the evening was Seth Laub.
Summer Hancock was chosen to represent the FFA and HOSA. Her future plans are to become an agricultural teacher. In school her activities include FFA and Student Council. Outside of school Summer works at Pelicks’ Queen 3 Farm. Her escort for homecoming court was Westin Landis.
Elizabeth Gaisor was chosen to represent the National Honor Society. After graduating, Elizabeth plans to attend Fordham University, where she plans to get a degree in psychology and play softball at the collegiate level. In school Elizabeth is a part of NHS, Student Council, Scholastic J, and varsity softball. Outside of school Elizabeth plays travel softball with the Virginia Glory, is a lifetime Auxiliary member of VFW Post 5863, and is running for 2023 Veterans Queen. Her escort was Mason Nipple.
Per Juniata tradition, after all of the candidates were introduced, one by one they all chose a white box. Before being chosen the boxes were randomly mixed to ensure that it was completely random. Each box contained a flower, if the candidate chose the box with the white flower, she would be crowned 2023 Homecoming Queen. As the girls opened their box, we found out who our 2023 Homecoming Queen is. Haley Mummah chose the box with the white flower. Haley, who was chosen to represent the service clubs was crowned at the football game. Congratulations to our new Homecoming Queen!
