The MMSD Dance company performed a ballet entitled “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!” at Juniata High School on November 23rd.
In the fun and quirky ballet, dancers perform characters and phrases brought to life from the book “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!” by Dr. Seuss.
As the ballet progressed, you followed the Four Kids (Sofia Reed, Addison Hack, Amelia Thierwechter, and Savannah Heeter) as they journey from places like the Not-So-Good-Street to the Great Balancing Act. You were introduced to silly characters like the Bang Ups and Hang Ups, Unslumped and Untangled, and Dexterous and Deft. But beware of the Happening, or else you may start happening too! And, of course, how could you miss the Strange Bird and her little birdies?
There were also many fun group dances, like the opening “Off to Great Places” dance and “Shoes on Your Feet”, where dancers danced with only their feet in the air. Others included the Games, the Maze, and the dreadful Waiting Place. The Waiting Place, where all you are to do is wait. And wait. And wait. Wait for the snow or rain to come, or the phone to ring, a wig with curls or string of pearls. “Everyone is just waiting”.
Don’t fret, the characters escaped that though, and witnessed flying banners!
To close out the show, an inspiring message rang through the audience: “Kid, you’ll move mountains!”
