Hocus Pocus, a film about a teen named Max Dennison and his kid sister Dani, trying to fit into life at a new school and house in rural Salem, and happen upon the local legend of the Sanderson Sisters. The legend is that one day a virgin will light the black flame candle and the witches will be brought back from the dead to exact their revenge on the children of the world who keep them young forever. Max and Dani team up with Max’s school crush Allison and attempt to keep the witches at bay after Max jokingly lit the candle, which launches into an hour and thirty-six minutes worth of occasional musical storytelling and your typical teen angst.
Hocus Pocus got mixed reviews while scoring a 71% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie contains a couple mature themes so the film may not be suitable for younger children, however it is a great movie to watch with a family with older children. Many American families make this movie a part of their holiday traditions, so check it out and maybe it’ll be one of yours!
