Juniata Runs Great at Districts for the win
The District 6 A,AA, and AAA Cross Country championships were held at Indian Valley Elementary in Reedsville on October 29, 2022. The boys XC team had a few goals in mind leading up to the AA race. Senior Logan Strawser wanted to get 1st overall and go after the course record of 15:14. The boys XC team, overall, wanted to win gold as a team, locking them in for states as the team to represent District 6 on November 5, 2022 at Hershey. The JHS boys have never sent a whole team to states before, just individual runners. By the first mile, you could see this was going to be a good race for Logan Strawser, leading the race and having a 10 meter gap between him and Philipsburg senior Chad Muckey. The rest of Juniata’s boys were up front, too! The main team for Juniata to worry about was Bellefonte. As the race finished, it looked like Juniata would win. Achieving his goal, Logan Strawser finished 1st with a new course record of 15:09. Wyatt Stroup finished 4th overall with a time of 16:28. Closely behind, Joey Bomberger finished 5th with a time of 16:43. With another top 10 placement, Juniata’s 4th runner Wesley Ehrisman finished 9th overall with a time of 17:27. Rounding out the scorers for Juniata was freshman Levi Zeiders finishing 12th overall with a time of 17:59. Finishing 16th and 29th for Juniata were Ricky Guante with a time of 18:55 and Charlie Telfer with a time of 21:23. Juniata then went to the awards and found out they won the championship as a team with a score of 31 compared to Belfonte’s score of 39. The boys ran an extravagant race and gave it their all for this race! All seven runners will race this Saturday at Hershey. Good luck boys!
As for the girls, only 3 runners ran so they could not score as a full team. The girls were led by Jessie Bomberger finishing 20th with a time of 23:37. Next up was Nia Mattews finishing 37th with a time of 27:07. Rounding out the girls was Aspen Eby placing 39th with a time of 28:34. Bomberger gave a good shot to go to states as an individual. Sadly, she didn’t have the race go her way. Same for the girls, they all ran well and hopefully next year Juniata can gather up some more girls to make a full scoring team to try to match the boys and win districts next year!
