In Pennsylvania, the two candidates running for senate are the republican nominee, Mehmet Cengiz Öz, better known as Dr. Oz, and the democratic nominee John Fetterman.

Oz grew up in Wilmington, Delaware, but has dual citizenship in Turkey and the U.S.A. He served in the Turkish army for 69 days under mandatory training because he lived outside of Turkey. Oz attended Harvard University and the University of Pennsylvania before starting his residency. After becoming a regular on The Oprah Winfrey Show, Oz got a show of his own, The Dr. Oz Show.

John Karl Fetterman was the mayor of Braddock for over 10 years and studied finance at Albright College and the University of Connecticut. He also earned a Master of Public Policy from Harvard University. Fetterman ran for Senate in 2016 but didn’t pass through the Democratic primary. He then ran for lieutenant governor of Pennsylvania in 2018 and won that position.

Oz’s main priority in his platform would be health care. Fetterman’s main priority would be healthcare, also in addition to criminal justice reform. The vote was very close, but Fetterman won at 50.9% against Oz’s 46.6%. Fetterman is set to take office next year on January 3rd, 2023.
