Juniata Wrestling

On January 11, Juniata Hosted Newport, winning 49-23, winning their first TVL title in 10 years. This match was senior night for the wrestling team, where they celebrated their 2023 seniors, Johnny Kauffman, Casey Smith, Taylor Smith, Wesley Woodward, and Liv Arentz. Johnny Kauffman is the son of Jennifer Mahoney. He has wrestled for fourteen years and plans to attend Lineman school in Georgia after graduating. Casey and Taylor Smith are the sons of Andrew and Robyn Smith. They have both wrestled for 12 years. After Graduation, Casey plans to go to a four-year college to major in special education, and Taylor intends to go to a four-year college and wrestle. Wesley Woodward gas wrestled for eight years and plans to Lineman school in Georgia. Liv Arentz is the daughter of Eliza and Brian Arentz. She has wrestled for two years and plans to go to Lock Haven to major in Exercise Science. 

Wrestling 107, Anthony Maradiaga lost by tech fall 18-2. Wrestling 114, Joey Baumbarger had a rocky start to his match, but he was able to pin his opponent with 39 seconds left in the match. Colton Roles, wrestling 121, was able to pin his opponent in 3 minutes and 21 seconds. At 127, Rider Smith won by decision 2-0. At 133, Casey Smith won by a major decision, 20-9. He could have ended the match with a tech fall but attempted to pin his opponent to give the team more points. Taylor Smith wrestled at 139 and pinned his opponent in 2 minutes and 51 seconds. At 160, Wesley Woodward pinned his opponent in 3 minutes and 41 seconds. At 172, Harrison Mummah Sealed the win for Juniata by pinning his opponent in 4 minutes and 17 seconds. Wrestling 189, Kelton Bunnel pinned his opponents in 3 minutes and 28 seconds. After being out all season, Lane Piper came back without a single practice wrestling 215 and was able to pin his opponent in 1 minute and 13 seconds.
